Born in Oxford Jo spent her formative years in a small Oxfordshire village. Her family then moved north, finally settling the Richmondshire area of the Dales.
After working with horses for a number of years, Jo decided to change direction and give painting a go.
Having had no formal tuition, Jo’s technique has established itself through trial and error. A lover of movement and light, Jo is an adamant believer in draftsmanship. If the initial structure is drawn correctly, a sense of movement and looseness can be established later without loss of the initial form. She uses this technique to loosen and create texture, enabling a sense of energy and emotion to penetrate the image.
Her work is now in collections held across a number of countries and shown through a few select galleries. Commissions play a large part in Jo’s work and range in both medium and subject matters from hounds to children’s portraits and nudes. Sizes can be as small as ten inches to some over ten foot long, Jo has a passion for larger works and hopes to indulge this more as people become aware of the impact created.
